EMDR, Accupuncture & Hypnotherapy
I first started to become interested in working with people in an holistic way in 1985. I was experiencing some emotional difficulties myself. I was prescribed antidepressants at the time. Being a single self employed parent I quickly realised that this was not a realistic long term solution.I know that sometimes they can provide the chemicals required to deal with an imbalance, but in my own case I needed to sort out the cause of my pain in order to live a full and happy life. Drugs were just a sticking plaster not a cure. I decided to try few different types of therapy. Psychotherapy, counselling, NLP etc… I noticed that they all offered different methods in which to address emotional pain. I also became aware that one size definitely doesn’t fit all. I was interested in process of how we learn to heal ourselves, I made the decision to study some of these fascinating subjects myself.
I started with counselling. It was the first door I opened. It became clear very quickly that people don’t listen. It can be very difficult navigating life with the feeling of not being heard. It can start in childhood, maybe parents are too busy or tired to take the time to listen properly. If you come from a large family, you might feel like you have to shout to be heard. Not easy if you are an introvert. I truly believe the most important gift you can offer someone is to just listen.
Then I progressed to NLP, this was very interesting. It suggested that its our wiring that is out of balance. The “Map” is the way we see the world (The territory) its subjective and therefore everybody sees things differently based on their own life experiences, perspectives and beliefs. Even though I found it really fascinating it wasn’t enough, I knew I needed to find something more.
I then by chance stumbled onto Five Element Acupuncture. I enrolled at the School of Five Element Acupuncture in London on a three year course that changed everything. It was such an incredibly in depth course, run by Nora Franglan. I must be honest, I found it very challenging. But by the end of my training I knew I could treat anyone. I have practiced professionally ever since I qualified in 2001.
In 2017 after 16 years in practice as an acupuncturist, I trained as a cognitive hypnotherapist with the Quest institute in London. This course provided me with yet another box of tools, to add to the skills I already had. I learned how to approach a problem from another perspective.
In 2018 I trained with the EMDR centre London, on how to work with trauma. The unconscious mind does not understand language. EMDR is an incredibly effectively eye movement technique that can really help to shift and release trauma.
I am now able to offer treatment that encompasses one or all of these modalities if needed. You have probably picked up by now, I am very curious, I like to learn….BUT as I mentioned at the beginning, one size doesn’t necessarily fit all.
I offer an initial consultation with no obligation that is free of charge.
